I give him the summer and the summer only. He has the chance to draft a really good pick given that there is no NHL season. Then he has the options of free agency and certain "trades" with teams who have too much cap due to the lowered cap. For us having cap to spend, we can take contracts or sign players to deals. Having Burke this summer is key to our success. This is the summer that makes the leafs or breaks them. Burke can accomplish alot if thats through trades like the luongo which WILL attract big named players, perry and getzlaf may or may not want to resign with the ducks, having carlyle and burke here is a + to attracting them to come here.

Don't worry he'll trade 2 first for Luongo.

If the season is wiped out, then some really good front line talent will become available in the UFA market. This is where Burke can make great strides into making this team very competitive. All you have to do, is look at a team like Anaheim and see both Getzlaf and Perry both available. The Leafs have the cap space to get them both. The Leafs have enough depth on the defense, to not lose to much talent going forward. Only Franson will be moving elsewhere, if the season is cancelled. The Leafs fans should welcome the cancellation and take advantage of their position, going forward.

Burke has the chance to dominate this free agency. With Carlyle and himself here in Toronto, IF AND ONLY IF both getzlaf and perry give up on the ducks, Toronto with the help of their former coach and GM, have an advantage to acquire both, which im sure of, both want to play on the same team together. AND WHO HAS THE CAP TO DO IT? we do
i honestly cant wait to see what burke does and who we draft this year

Yeah we go mental to things we disapprove of Like if rick nash didnt even get a good return, you guys are gunna get a much worse trade than that. It simple logics, the team with a player thats gunna eventually be traded, who has a trade list with limited teams to get him, will never get the full return expected back

We can only hope. Anything short of signing BOTH those players or making a deal of that magnitude via trade should be viewed as a Fail for Burke and his walking papers should be handed to him. No more excuses and no more chances after this summer. Although, he most likely would stay on as president anyways and appoint a new GM named Dave Nonis.

If a lockout cancels the whole season then Burke's job is saved, if there is hockey, it depends how the Leafs play. If they really suck, like suck enough to get a lottery pick, then Burke's fired.

The whole point of having him here and carlyle is to lure them both here. Even if they sign for 7 million per which is alot but reasonably i think we can sign both to an extension of 5-6 years locked depending how the CBA works out, i think thats a win for Burke to stay here for a long time. I think both players right now hate anahiem, nothing good is happening there and they look worse than us, besides from them having a goalie. Ive been like thinking of this for the past couple years, waiting for the day those 2 hit the free agency

The mediators failed... theres no hockey stop bringing it up. This "hope" for an NHL season to resume is irrelevant now.

I'm sure he will be able to spin it into blaming the shortened season or something. Season or no season playoffs or no playoffs I can't see him being let go until after the 2013/2014 season if the team hasn't drastically improved by then.

Apparently right now Gary is saying that him and Fehr should be out of the next negotiation for the CBA talks.

If the whole season is lost, it's hard to see the Leafs firing Burke but his time is limited, especially if he continues to fail to make the playoffs. At this point, it's just a matter of time. Hopefully he doesn't damage the future with futile attempts to save his own ass but odds are, that's an inevitability.

lol I wouldn't get your hopes too high, it will only hurt that much more when they sign somewhere else. It's impossible for anyone to really know what they're thinking or if they would even care to play for Burke or Carlyle again. Time will tell. IMO if an impact move is unable to be made next summer like that then I say blow it all up and build through the draft.
